Dr. Armity Simon and Dr. Patricia Grade
are now offering Botox for a decrease in frown lines as
well as age lines. Botox cosmetic was the most popular
medicinal cosmetic procedure for the past four years in
the United States.
Why do frown lines appear? The reason frown lines appear
is because the skin becomes less elastic over time and
repeated muscle contractions can result in frown lines
between the brows and the forehead. Botox is a purified
protein that smoothes the muscle by blocking the nerve
impulses. With a few tiny injections of Botox the
release of the chemical that causes muscles to contract
will be blocked. With less movement the skin surface
gradually smoothes out and the lines begin to fade.
Botox is approved for the temporary treatment of
moderate to severe frown lines between the brows of
people between ages 18 and 65.
Botox is a simple ten minute procedure that consists of
a few tiny injections and results are typically seen in
a few days and they continue to improve over a period of
a few weeks. There is no anesthetic required for
injection of Botox. We normally use a cold pack prior to
injection of the Botox. Patients may experience a
minimal and brief discomfort at the time of injection.
There may be slight bruising at the time of the
injection of the Botox.
If you are interested in administration of Botox by the
doctors in the office, please do not hesitate to call
us. Our rates are very competitive with the rates of the
physicians in the area that administer Botox. Please
call our office at 480-860-2322 to schedule for a free
consultation.

Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty (labia reduction and beautification) is becoming
increasingly popular among women. Many women suffer from
oversized or asymmetrical labia minora (the skin surrounding
the opening of the vagina). Some women are born with this
condition, and for some it can appear later in life with
aging or due to stretching after childbirth. There are
multiple reasons that women are requesting labiaplasty. They
want to alleviate the discomfort caused by large and/or
thick labia. This can interfere with working out, biking,
wearing tight fitting clothes and sexual intercourse. Others
want to improve the appearance of the labia, which can build
confidence and improve self-esteem. Women who have these
problems can now have labia surgery to reduce the outward
appearance of the labia minora and correct misshapenness or
irregularities.
Vaginoplasty
Vaginal rejuvenation (vaginoplasty) involves tightening and
rebuilding the vaginal muscles and the perineum. Multiple
childbirths, aging, and genetic factors often cause the
vaginal muscles to loosen, tear, and weaken. The diameter of
the vagina gets bigger and there is a loss of feeling and
pleasure. Even after performing Kegel exercises, the
condition of the vaginal muscles may not improve.
Vaginoplasty helps to return the vagina to a "pre-pregnancy"
state. The procedure tones vaginal muscles, resulting in
greater contraction strength and control, leading to greater
sensation during the sexual experience.

healthcare professional can answer further questions and
discuss details of labiaplasty and vaginoplasty with you.

The relationship between excess body fat and the risk of death is well known. An
increased risk of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and stroke are just some of
the factors that explain the connection between body mass index (BMI) and the
risk of death.
A new study, sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and published in the New
England Journal of Medicine, has found that being overweight during midlife
increases the risk of death by 20%–40%, even if one is healthy and has never
smoked. The study recommends that women in midlife, maintain a BMI at 18.5 to
24.9.
Maintaining a healthy weight can also help reduce the risk for several kinds of
cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Excess weight is associated
with increased risks of endometrial cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer and
possibly stomach cancer. Obesity contributes to 14%–20% of all cancer-related
mortality. The American Cancer Society guidelines for cancer prevention, in
addition to avoiding tobacco, recommend:
|
1. Maintaining a healthy weight
throughout life.
2. Adopting a physically active lifestyle. |
|
|
a. Adults: Engage in at least 30 minutes
of moderate to vigorous physical activity, above usual
activities, on 5 or more days of the week; 45 to 60
minutes of intentional physical activity are preferable.
b. Children and adolescents: Engage in at least 60
minutes per day of moderate to vigorous physical
activity at least 5 days per week. |
|
3. Eat a healthy diet, with an emphasis
on plant sources.
4. If you drink alcoholic beverages, limit consumption.

Now, many women remain
uncertain about taking hormone therapy for symptoms of menopause.
Some women however suffer with the many symptoms associated with
menopause. These common discomforts include hot flashes, vaginal
dryness, painful intercourse, irritable mood, sleep difficulty and
weight gain. All of these can be very distressing!
It seems that women
are often concerned about risk of breast cancer when taking
hormones. In fact the risks are relatively very small. Data
from the Women's Health Initiative indicate that the overall
attributable risk of invasive breast cancer in women
receiving estrogen plus progestin was 8 more cases per
10,000 women-years. No increased risk for invasive breast
cancer was detected for women who never used hormone therapy
in the past or for those receiving estrogen only.
To address these concerns, the American Society for
Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) convened a multidisciplinary
group of healthcare providers to discuss the benefits and
risks of hormone therapy for women in menopause with
symptoms of night sweats, sleep problems, vaginal dryness,
mood and sleep disorders.
Their conclusion
was that hormone therapy, whether in pill form, transdermal,
or vaginal routes, is the most effective treatment for
symptoms of menopause. Healthy symptomatic women should be
offered the option of hormone therapy for menopausal
symptoms. Symptom relief with hormone therapy for many
younger women (at the onset of menopause) with menopausal
symptoms outweighs the risks and may provide an overall
improvement in quality of life. Hormone therapy should be
individualized for symptomatic women. This involves
tailoring the regimen and dose to individual needs. Please
call 480-860-2322 to schedule a consult with your healthcare
professional to discuss menopause in detail.
